Then check the responsible Thai mission, Portuguese supporting documents and the route that fits your plans. ## Landing, Body ## Plan the visit before choosing the visa Portugal appears in Thailand's current 30-day tourism exemption list for ordinary passports, effective from 15 September 2026. Check the entry conditions again for your travel date. An older 60-day reference should not be used to plan a new trip under the revised rules. For a longer stay, start with your intended activity rather than a headline visa duration. Retirement, overseas remote work, family, study and employment involve different questions. Note where you live now, which passport you will travel on and how long you expect to stay. ## Portuguese citizenship and application residence The Thai Embassy in Lisbon directs eligible applicants to the official Thai e-Visa system. Its published guidance concerns Portuguese citizens and people legally resident in Portugal and tells people living elsewhere to contact the appropriate Thai mission. If you are Portuguese but live in another country, confirm the responsible mission before applying. Prepare evidence of your current residence and keep the same passport information throughout the application. The Embassy's e-Visa notice is older than the latest entry rules, so use its application-location guidance alongside current visa and entry information rather than reusing its historical short-stay figures. ## Requesting a Portuguese criminal-record certificate If your selected visa checklist requires one, use the Portuguese Ministry of Justice guidance for the Certificado do Registo Criminal. The official service explains online and other application channels, including information for residents abroad. Use the channel appropriate to your identification and access to Portuguese digital services. Confirm the recipient's required language, document age and certification before ordering. Check the official fee and service conditions rather than assuming that an online request means free or same-day delivery. An electronic certificate and a paper copy may need different handling for their intended use. ## Match the route to the evidence A retirement visa application abroad and an extension in Thailand are separate stages. Prepare the financial documents, insurance evidence and supporting records for the stage you are actually applying for. A rule quoted for another person's renewal is not a reliable checklist for your first application. For a DTV, identify the relevant listed purpose, such as eligible overseas remote work or a qualifying activity, and check the responsible mission's evidence requirements. Do not carry a retirement savings-or-income formula into a DTV application without checking the actual instructions. BOI's LTR programme is a separate option with distinct qualification categories. Having Portuguese citizenship, a pension or a remote job does not alone establish eligibility for a category. Review the relevant criteria before making plans around it. ## Prepare the rest of the move separately Ask the relevant Portuguese pension and healthcare institutions about your own arrangements if you plan to live abroad. Visa permission does not automatically continue a particular public-health benefit, establish an overseas pension-payment method or determine your tax residence. Keep financial statements in their original form and ask how the receiving authority wants any currency conversion shown. Before making a large transfer or a non-refundable commitment, confirm the evidence required for your application and the practical conditions with the relevant institution.
