Rayong Province on Thailand's Eastern Seaboard is the industrial heartland of the country and the core of the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) — Thailand's flagship investment zone. It hosts the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate, one of Southeast Asia's largest petrochemical complexes, and attracts a significant foreign professional workforce. It also has a quieter coastal side, with Ban Phe serving as the ferry departure point for Koh Samet.

Who Lives In Rayong

Rayong's expat community is dominated by industrial and engineering professionals employed by the multinationals and joint ventures operating in Map Ta Phut and the Eastern Seaboard industrial estates. These include petrochemical, automotive, and electronics companies from Japan, South Korea, Europe, and the US.
This is the most distinctly professional expat community in Thailand outside of Bangkok — it is structured around corporate employment, BOI-promoted company benefits, and Non-B + work permit cycles rather than the lifestyle migration that drives Chiang Mai or Phuket demographics.

Work Permits In Rayong (Eec Context)

Koh Samet (30 Km Offshore)

Koh Samet is a national park island 30 minutes by ferry from Ban Phe. Popular for weekends among the Rayong/Pattaya expat community. Not a long-stay base (national park restrictions limit permanent accommodation development).

Immigration

Rayong Immigration Office (Rayong town area): serves Rayong Province. Well-practised with industrial zone Non-B and work permit cases. BOI companies use Bangkok OSS rather than local Immigration for fast-track processing.

Healthcare

• Bangkok Hospital Rayong: part of the Bangkok network. International standard, English-speaking. Best for expat use. • Rayong Hospital (public): large regional hospital. • Pattaya (40 km west) provides additional private hospital options.

Transport

Car strongly recommended — the province is spread out. Bangkok: 2–2.5 hours via Motorway 7 (Eastern Expressway). Pattaya: 40 km west. U-Tapao International Airport (Rayong/Pattaya): 20 km west; expanding capacity under EEC investment.
