NON-O CATEGORIES (BEYOND MARRIAGE)
The Non-Immigrant O visa covers multiple family relationship bases. The most common:
Parent of a Thai child: a foreign national who is the parent (biological or legal) of a Thai citizen. Financial requirement: 400,000 THB in a Thai bank account or 40,000 THB/month income. Documents: child's Thai birth certificate, Thai national ID, proof of parental relationship.
Dependant of a Non-B work permit holder: spouses and minor children of foreign nationals holding a Thai work permit can obtain Non-O visas as dependants. They cannot work in Thailand under this visa (the work permit holder is the authorised worker). Financial requirement: tied to the work permit holder's status rather than the dependant's own funds.
Dependant of an LTR or Smart Visa holder: spouses and under-20 children of LTR and Smart Visa primary holders receive accompanying Non-O or equivalent status under the BOI family inclusion provisions.
Guardian or caretaker of a Thai national: in some cases, those providing documented care for a Thai national can qualify. Case-by-case — confirm with Immigration.
THE ANNUAL EXTENSION
Extended annually at Immigration. Documents typically required for the parent-of-Thai-child category:
• Passport and copies
• Thai child's birth certificate (original + copy)
• Thai child's national ID or passport
• Your bank passbook + bank letter (400,000 THB balance)
• TM.7 form
• Photographs
• 1,900 THB fee
• TM30 on file
For dependants of work permit holders: the Non-O extension is tied to the work permit holder's permit validity — it is renewed in alignment with the primary holder's permit and Non-B extension.
WORK RIGHTS
Non-O holders (family/dependant basis) generally cannot work in Thailand. If you need to work, a separate Non-B visa and work permit are required — the Non-O does not authorise employment.
