WHAT THE THAILAND e-VISA IS
The Thailand e-Visa (evisa.thaigov.go.th) is an official Thai government online visa application portal. It allows nationals of eligible countries to apply for selected visa categories online, pay online, and receive their visa electronically — no consulate visit required.
The e-Visa is not a visa category itself — it is a delivery method. You are applying for the same visa (Tourist Visa, Non-OA, Non-B, etc.) that you would otherwise apply for at a consulate; the difference is that the application and issuance happen online.
WHICH VISA TYPES ARE AVAILABLE VIA e-VISA
The Thai e-Visa portal offers the following visa categories (subject to change — verify at evisa.thaigov.go.th):
• Tourist Visa (TR) — single-entry 60-day tourist visa
• Non-Immigrant Visa Category O-A (retirement)
• Non-Immigrant Visa Category O (family/marriage)
• Non-Immigrant Visa Category B (employment)
• Non-Immigrant Visa Category ED (education)
• Non-Immigrant Visa Category M (media)
Not all categories may be available for all nationalities — the portal will indicate what is available for your passport.
ELIGIBLE NATIONALITIES
The e-Visa portal does not cover all nationalities equally. As of June 2025, the e-Visa system is available to nationals of a broad range of countries including Australia, the UK, USA, EU member states, Japan, South Korea, and others. The current complete list is maintained at evisa.thaigov.go.th.
If your nationality is not listed on the e-Visa portal for your desired visa category, you must apply at a Thai consulate in person or by post.
THE e-VISA APPLICATION PROCESS
1. Create an account at evisa.thaigov.go.th using your email address.
2. Select your visa type and nationality, and confirm your eligibility.
3. Complete the application form online: personal details, travel details, purpose of visit, address in Thailand.
4. Upload required documents: passport scan (bio page), passport photograph (white background), and supporting documents for the specific visa type (e.g., bank statement for Non-OA, employment letter for Non-B).
5. Pay the visa fee online by credit or debit card. Fee amounts are the same as consulate applications.
6. Wait for processing. Processing time varies by visa type and nationality — typically 3–7 business days for tourist visas; longer for non-immigrant categories.
7. Receive your e-Visa by email as a PDF. Print it and present it alongside your passport at the immigration counter on arrival in Thailand.
WHEN YOU STILL NEED A CONSULATE VISIT
Certain situations require an in-person consulate application even when the e-Visa portal is available:
• Your nationality is not listed on the portal for your desired visa type
• You are applying for a visa category not available online
• You have complex circumstances (prior visa refusals, criminal record disclosure) that require a consulate officer review
• You prefer to have a physical visa stamp in your passport
HOW VISA CENTRE HELPS
