Plan your Thailand visa with an Argentine passport

An Argentine passport, your current residence and the purpose of your stay each matter. Check the appropriate entry route and document list before arranging a longer move.

Start with the purpose of your stay

For an Argentine traveller, a holiday and a move to Thailand are different plans. The Thai Embassy in Buenos Aires confirms that ordinary Argentine passports retain a bilateral visa exemption of up to 90 days. Check the conditions for your intended visit rather than treating that period as permission to live or work in Thailand indefinitely.

For a longer move, write down what you will actually be doing: retiring, working remotely for overseas clients, joining family, studying or taking a job in Thailand. This gives you a useful starting point for the relevant visa category and its current checklist.

Apply through the mission responsible for your residence

The Buenos Aires embassy states that it provides visa services to applicants currently located in Argentina, Paraguay or Uruguay. If you live elsewhere, confirm the Thai mission responsible for your current location before starting an application. Argentine citizenship alone does not make Buenos Aires the correct application location in every case.

Keep the passport details, residence evidence and travel dates consistent across the application. If you hold another nationality, decide which passport you will use and check the requirements for that document. Avoid mixing one passport's entry conditions with another passport's application details.

Obtain the right Argentine criminal-record document

Where the chosen visa checklist asks for a police or criminal-record certificate, start with Argentina's Registro Nacional de Reincidencia. Its official service is the Certificado de Antecedentes Penales. The government portal describes different application routes according to the identity documents and authentication method available to you.

Check the published fee and service conditions for the option you select. The RNR publishes fees and service conditions for each option; check these before paying. Before ordering, ask the receiving Thai mission which certificate format, issue date, language and certification it accepts. A document that can be downloaded in Argentina is not automatically ready for every overseas visa application.

Compare retirement, DTV and LTR carefully

For retirement, distinguish an overseas visa application from a later extension of stay in Thailand. Their financial evidence, insurance and document timing can differ. Prepare the checklist for your particular stage instead of relying on a universal bank-holding rule.

The Destination Thailand Visa has specified purposes, including eligible workcation and listed activities. If you plan to work remotely, describe the work and its overseas connection accurately and check the responsible mission's evidence requirements. Do not assume that remote-work planning and taking a job with a Thai employer use the same route.

BOI's Long-Term Resident programme has separate qualification categories. A pension or overseas income alone does not establish that a particular category fits. Review the current category requirements before making financial commitments around it.

Keep pension and financial planning separate

Ask ANSES about your own pension administration if you intend to live abroad. A Thai visa does not settle how a pension is paid, which bank documents are accepted or how your income will be taxed. Check those matters with the responsible institution and an appropriately qualified adviser.

Keep original financial statements and ask which currency, conversion method and document period the visa checklist requires. A historical peso-to-dollar estimate is not a substitute for the evidence required by the receiving authority.

Questions from Argentine passport holders

How long is the short-visit exemption for an Argentine passport?

The Buenos Aires embassy confirms up to 90 days under the bilateral arrangement for ordinary Argentine passports. Check the purpose and conditions of your visit before travelling. A short-visit exemption should not be used as a substitute for an appropriate long-stay or employment route.

Which Argentine criminal-record service should I use?

Consult the Registro Nacional de Reincidencia service for the Certificado de Antecedentes Penales. Choose the official application method that fits your identity documents and authentication options, then confirm the format required by the receiving Thai mission.

Is the Argentine certificate free or issued immediately?

Do not assume either. The official portal lists service options with their own fees and conditions. Check the option you need and allow for any additional translation or certification required for the visa application.

Where should I apply if I live outside Argentina?

Confirm the Thai mission responsible for your present location. Buenos Aires says that it serves applicants currently in Argentina, Paraguay or Uruguay; an Argentine passport alone does not establish that it is the correct mission for someone living elsewhere.

Can I plan a DTV application for remote work?

The DTV includes defined workcation purposes. Describe your overseas work accurately and use the responsible mission's current checklist. Passport nationality alone does not establish eligibility, and the route should not be assumed to cover employment with a Thai employer.

Does every retirement application use the same bank-holding period?

No single period should be applied to every stage. An overseas visa application and an extension in Thailand are separate processes. Check the specific financial-evidence and document-timing requirements for the route you intend to use.

Will a Thai visa arrange my ANSES pension payments?

No. Check your individual pension administration with ANSES before moving. Visa planning, overseas payment arrangements and any proof requested by your pension institution need to be handled separately.

What insurance should I prepare?

Use the current checklist for your chosen visa and application stage. Ask which policy, coverage and certificate format are accepted. Avoid reusing old insurance amounts from a different retirement or DTV application.

Does obtaining a visa determine how overseas income is taxed?

Visa status alone does not settle your tax position. Your residence, income and remittances need a separate review against current rules. Get appropriate tax advice before relying on a particular treatment of Argentine or other overseas income.

What if I also hold an Italian or Spanish passport?

Choose the passport you intend to use and check its relevant entry and application requirements. Keep nationality, passport details and supporting documents consistent. Do not combine different passports' conditions to assume eligibility.

Must an Argentine document be translated or legalised?

Ask the Thai authority receiving that particular document. The required language, certificate age and certification depend on the document and purpose. Do not assume that an apostille or a downloadable record is accepted in every case.

What should I have ready for Visa Finder?

Frequently asked questions

Useful starting points before you choose your next step.

How do I know which Thailand visa is right for me?

Start with the Visa Finder or tell us your nationality, reason for travelling, intended length of stay and expected travel date. We can then identify the routes worth assessing without asking you to choose a category first.

Can I track progress online?

Clients can use the secure portal to view case activity, messages and assigned tasks where those features apply to their service. Access details are provided during onboarding.

Can my partner or family be included?
