Thailand Tourist Visa (TR)
The Thailand Tourist Visa (TR) grants a 60-day stay for leisure travel — double the 30-day visa exemption available at the border. It is applied for at a Thai consulate before departure. Visa Centre assists with tourist visa applications for travellers planning extended Thailand stays, multiple-country itineraries, or who need to demonstrate the visa for travel logistics.

TOURIST VISA vs VISA EXEMPTION — WHICH TO USE
Most Western nationals (Australia, UK, USA, EU, Japan, South Korea, and many others) automatically receive a 30-day visa exemption on arrival in Thailand — no advance visa application needed. The tourist visa is worth applying for if you need more than 30 days for a single visit.
If your nationality is not covered by the exemption, check whether your nationality receives a Visa on Arrival (15 days) or requires a tourist visa in advance.
WHAT THE TOURIST VISA PROVIDES
• 60 days of stay from date of entry
• Single-entry as standard. Double-entry (DE) and triple-entry (TE) tourist visas are available at some consulates — allowing multiple entries to Thailand over the validity period (typically 6 months from issue date), each giving 60 days
• In-country extension: one 30-day extension available at Immigration (1,900 THB). Total stay with extension: 90 days.
THE APPLICATION PROCESS
Applied for at a Thai consulate or embassy in your country of residence (or sometimes any country where you are legally resident).
Documents typically required:
• Completed Non-Immigrant Visa application form (or Tourist Visa application form, depending on consulate)
• Passport (6 months validity minimum; at least 2 blank pages)
• Passport photograph (recent, white background)
• Proof of onward travel (return air ticket or travel itinerary showing you will leave Thailand)
• Proof of accommodation in Thailand (hotel booking, host letter)
• Proof of funds: bank statement or similar — some consulates require 20,000 THB equivalent per person
Fee: varies by consulate — typically AUD 40–70 / GBP 30–60 / USD 40–60. Check the specific consulate website for current fees.
Processing: typically 3–5 business days. Some consulates offer same-day or express processing for an additional fee.
DOUBLE AND TRIPLE ENTRY
Not all consulates offer DE/TE tourist visas. The Sydney, Melbourne, and Hong Kong Thai consulates have historically offered them — check directly with the consulate for current availability. DE/TE are useful for itineraries that include side trips to neighbouring countries (Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia) with return to Thailand.
THE IN-COUNTRY 30-DAY EXTENSION
After entry, you can extend once at the Immigration Bureau for your province: 1,900 THB, same-day. Documents: passport, TM.7, photograph.
PLANNING FOR LONGER STAYS
If you intend to stay more than 90 days, a tourist visa is not the right foundation — look at the DTV (180 days, remote workers), Non-OA (retirement), or Non-O (family) instead.
