Thailand's LTR Programme Has Passed 12,000 Approvals — and Its New Digital Portal Changes the Application Journey
In short
Thailand's Board of Investment reported 12,010 approved Long-Term Resident visa recipients as of October 2026 and introduced a new integrated online system in September. The route is established, but category selection and evidence remain decisive: applicants still need to meet the requirements for their specific LTR group rather than the programme in general.
What's changing
The new portal is designed to connect the online process across the BOI, Department of Consular Affairs, Immigration Bureau, Department of Employment and Revenue Department. Applicants who filed before 1 September 2026 are directed to the archive login, while newer applications use the current portal. BOI figures show Wealthy Pensioners as the largest principal-applicant category, followed by Highly-Skilled Professionals, Work-from-Thailand Professionals and Wealthy Global Citizens, with dependants counted separately.
Who is affected
New LTR applicants — use the current portal and build evidence for one specific category.
Applications lodged before 1 September 2026 — access remains through the archive login identified by BOI.
Holders approaching the five-year point — BOI guidance says qualification renewal should be submitted within the prescribed 120-to-60-day window before stay permission expires.
Work-from-Thailand applicants — employer, income, experience and insurance evidence must fit that category's rules.
What you should do
Confirm the correct LTR category first, then work backwards from the evidence and timing rules. Existing holders should diary the five-year review window well before it opens. Keep a complete copy of the original filing because renewal tests continued qualification, not merely identity.
